Beats
Playing Beats (Quick Start):

If you don’t select a
“bts:” preset, only the first
trigger key will work.
Riffs marked “bts:” have 16
parts. Riffs without “bts:” have
only 1 part.
1. Press the right cursor button twice so that the cursor is located
beneath the Category field.
2. Turn the data entry control until bts: is shown in the Category field.
3. Press the right cursor button so that the cursor is underneath the
Preset Name field.
4. Now turning the data entry control selects ONLY bts: presets!
Play Beats
5. Play the keyboard keys from C1 to B2.
6. Refer to the “Default Assignment” diagram on page 35 and try out each
of the keys.
7. Try out the front panel knobs and other “bts:” presets. Now check out the
other cool BEATS controls explained in this chapter!
8. If BEATS are not playing: Locate the screen at the top of the preceding
page in the Arp/Beats menu and set the parameters exactly as shown.
Get Busy!
Two of the Controller knobs are programmed to control Beats. Check it out!
9. Select the second row of the front panel Controller knobs. The E-H LED
will light.

You can also press the
Audition button with a bts:
preset selected to start Beats
mode running.
10. Now turn the Movement knob with a Beats Riff playing. Movement
controls the Beats Busy parameter which adds or subtracts parts from
the Beat. (bts: presets only)
11. Turn the Rate knob with a Beats Riff playing. Rate controls the Beats
Variation parameter. Beats Variation changes which parts are playing
without changing the number of parts. This makes it easy to try out
different combinations of Beat Part
